Duppy; a ghost or spirit
DUPPY is a brand rooted in cultural hybridity, black surrealism and unapologetic self-expression.
Founded by visual artist Yaya Sonyini, Born in Jamaica and raised in the United States, Yaya translates her lived experience into an eclectic visual language that blends punk aesthetics, surrealist influences and bold graphic design.
“I exist between worlds — and my art reflects that tension and harmony. DUPPY is not just a label; it is my language of identity, a space where my heritage and my individuality collide”
Drawing inspiration from the energy of punk, DUPPY reimagines avant-garde fashion through the lens of a Black immigrant identity in New York. Yaya incorporates her own photography directly into the garments fusing personal narrative with visual innovation to create a distinct, eclectic language of fashion.
At its core, DUPPY is a dialogue between heritage and modernity — a vivid exploration of what it means to craft a new identity in today’s fashion landscape.
“DUPPY is my contribution to a larger conversation — a declaration that fashion is not only about aesthetics, but about identity, rebellion and the freedom to reimagine oneself.”
